The Napkin

Writing For Representation LLC originated from a napkin.

That’s right, a napkin.

Not some plain napkin, a napkin that had been sitting in my glove box for over a month.

A napkin that I happened to grab to scribble my thoughts on.

The thoughts I had about the lack of representation and inclusion there is in the world.

You see, when my children were born, it really opened my eyes to the changes that needed to be made.

The changes that would help the world become a better place,

the changes that would create inclusion,

the changes that would provide representation to so many people who deserve it,

the changes that would build a world, that I want to raise my children in.

I could see the changes we needed but I couldn’t see what I could do…

That is until my napkin.

I originally began writing on my napkin just to get my thoughts out. That quickly turned into a book idea just for my daughter to help give her the representation in books that she was missing. Then I had a thought, “If my daughter needs more representation, then how many other children are out there without the representation that they deserve?”. I may not be the best, I may not be the most talented, but I believe I can offer these children something that they’re missing, representation! Darcy’s Differences is what started that day on a napkin. Darcy’s Differences has numerous different disabilities, physical features, and skin colors! I wanted to provide representation for as many people as I could, and I believe I did just that.

Writing For Representation LLC is just getting started. I have thoroughly enjoyed writing and helping provide representation for many children. I believe that every child and adult should feel represented and proud of who they are. I strive to end the stigma on mental health and disabilities. I’m not stopping with Darcy’s Differences.

I will continue writing to help others feel seen and educate society on how diverse we truly are through representation.
